A copper-engraved map from the account of the French embassy to Ayutthaya in the reign of King Narai, published in Paris in 1691 — among the first maps of Siam drawn from first-hand travel.
It traces the Chao Phraya from the river mouth to Ayutthaya and Lopburi, marking the Bangkok fort once garrisoned by the French: a key document of Franco-Siamese relations.
Seventeenth-century maps of Siam with full margins rarely reach the Thai saleroom; this is the headline lot of the sale.
Details: Copper engraving, uncoloured · 26 × 36 cm · full margins
Condition: Original centre fold; paper bright with light spotting at a lower corner.
Provenance: A European map collector resident in Bangkok, acquired in London in the 1980s.
